how about if your country invades another as a pre-emptive strike based upon false and revised intelligence reports, like the USA?
I have heard the idea that it is within GWB's power to declare marshal law prior to 20 January 2009 thereby preventing a transfer of power to the duly elected future president. If he does, then it will become apparent why "we the people" have the right to keep and bear arms.

I suppose you would be considered a traitor by those in power from your own country. But elsewhere, you may be considered something else, such as a liberator. I am basing this on your example of Germany during WW2. But, even during WW2, the common German soldier wasn't held accountable for the atrocities that were committed by his superior officers. It was the high command that was held accountable and ultimately prosecuted for their acts. For the most part the common soldier was fighting other soldiers from other countries. There are always a few exceptions to everything.

That's a tough one. I love this country. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else in the whole world. However, it's frightening how many freedoms we've lost in my lifetime. I'm 64 years old, and can remember how different things used to be. When my kids were in school, it was mandated that they HAD to learn to swim. Now I have no objection at all to my kids learning to swim, but I DO object to the government telling me they have to. I went to a school board meeting and voiced my concerns. Everyone looked at me as though I had lost my mind. Don't you see the difference in making the decision yourself and the government telling you you have to?
I think we're living in pre-Nazi Germany, people. I think we're in the wrong re Iraq, but now that we're there, I don't see how we can in good conscience abandon them.
I don't know how to answer you about being a traitor. I think Jefferson indicated somewhere that if the gov't became oppressive, we should rise up and overthrow it. I, however, am too old and tired.
I used to be a Democrat, but now I don't like any of them very much. Our system is so rotten that I don't see how it can really be fixed. Lobbyists, special interest, campaign contributions, ownership in huge corporations, all these are sullying the process.

A friend of mine from Germany had that experience. She was 7 when the war ended. Her father refused to join the Nazi party and exterminate Jews/Gypsys/etc. They arrested him and put him in an extermination camp where he was shot as a traitor. Her mother was thrown out of their house with only the clothes on her back and had to walk most of the way across Germany in winter with 3 children under the age of 10 to get to her parents' farm, where they spent the rest of the war. Although I applaud his decision, I don't know if I would have had that kind of courage.

Depends on the outcome of the war. If your side wins you are a Hero, if you lose you are guilty of Terrorism and Treason and will be hung by the neck until dead.
Violence should always be a last resort, so you could start by joining civil organizations who are working to change the government like the NAACP.
FOA war crimes are also defined by the Victor... Dropping a Neutron bomb banned by the UN over the Baghdad Airport might be considered a war crime, or using radio active ammunition that leaves fall out, causing sterility and cancer, or using land mines and cluster bombs that remain to maim for generations...

Hell No I'd rather go to jail! Because all of these Governments lie to the American people and to their own people. Hell you don't know what in the hell you're fighting for sometimes. It could be over a bet or a dare that someone won't eat a can of dog food and whomever loses the damn bet is the one who has to start the damn war. I do not trust these people in politics. Look how they lied about the Vietnam War! That was one of the biggest lies ever! And then the soldier came back all messed up in their minds and the frigging Government wouldn't even help a lot of them. Remember Agent Orange?
Some of them are just full of sh!t! And they get on TV with these news bulletins trying to scare the hell out people with more lies. Politics have gotten more sh!t twisted then a ring cycle from every washer in every laundromat across this country. And sometimes their sh!t still comes out dirty! Start believing what you feel in your hearts is right. Don't be dangled like a puppet in order to make you look like the fool or get yourself killed for no good reason. The Government can truly kiss my Black @ss! And that's for real! I don't care if I lose 10 points for reporting me. You asked the question, I answered truthfully!

I won't have to do anything with it but the only person who can judge if their country is committing crimes are themselves because what is right for someone does not mean it's right for the other.

That's a tough one....Of course stand behind your country and the men and women who fight for you...but that doesn't mean you have to agree with it. I currently DO NOT agree with the USA being in IRAQ, However I pray for our troops everyday and wish for their safe return home and I am forever grateful for the risk they take.....
GOD BLESS ALL THE TROOPS ALL OVER THE WORLD, MAY YOU ALL COME HOME SAFELY!!!!

you're describing the convictions of a real patriot
not one of these "close your mouth and mind do as your told" conservatives..."shut up and kill for god and corporation, uh, I mean country"
but rather, a free thinking patriot
who loves his or her country enough to want to correct the mistakes and make the country better.......not cover up our flaws with a giant flag and claim perfection
It's a shame real American patriots are in such short supply today

In America, you can always be a conscientious objector but that means you would refuse to fight at all. Fighting against your country would definitely be considered treason though.
