Three students guess the number of jelly beans in a jar. Kyle guessed 545, Franco guessed 475, and Suzi guessed 490. One was wrong by 25, another by 30, and another by 40. How many jelly beans were there in the jar.

The difference between the lowest guess and the highest guess is 545-475 = 70, which is the sum of 30 and 40, so the answer lies between these two, at either 505 or 515.

490 + 25 = 515, so that is the correct number of jellybeans.

By trial and error and a little logic, the number 515 comes to mind.
