The penalty would depend on if you are Union or not. When deciding whether or not to cross a picket line, ask yourself this:
do you really support companies over workers? By crossing the line that is actually what you are doing.
Read the sourced article, it may open your eyes about picket lines.

If you are not a member of the striking union, there is nothing they can do, other than name-calling or giving you a cold shoulder.
If you are a union member and willfully crossed a picket line, most union contracts will allow them to fine a member. You would have broken solidarity which is the strength of the union. It's usually up to the membership to set the fine, but it's normally equal to the amount of wages you earned while everyone else was out of work. If you don't pay the fine, they don't have a legal recourse, but you could be expelled, which may or may not affect you (i.e. you may need union seniority to bid on open jobs or for certain promotions).

You cannot be fined by any civil authority.
You are legally protected as are the strikers.
Crossing the line of your own or sister union is not illegal but also not the right, or smart thing to do.
There are instances where members of life saving or vital repair service unions are required to cross lines .
Strikers are not permitted to hinder life saving activities.
Union Yes.
