Bravo! This is one of the most maddening questions about Lost. For one whole year I waited for Walt's return, and when it happened he was sailing off in a boat with Michael. Why was Walt taken by the others? We were never given a good reason but I believe it is due to his "special abilities." I believe Walt was able to speak to Jacob, much like Ben and Locke. I don't believe that Michael and Walt made their way off the island because Ben never wanted anyone to leave. Also, why were they sent away in a sailboat when the submarine was a better way to transport them home? I think we will see them again. I need to know if Michael was being brainwashed by the others because I do not believe he would have killed Ana Lucia and LIbby otherwise. THey will be returning, one way or another.

I agree, it is strange and maddening. Especially after they made a big deal in Season 1 how Walt was "special" - bad things happened to those around him.
As with much of the storyline, I don't believe the writers even know where the story is going. They're probably making this stuff up as they go...with about a 4-5 episode cushion.
Supposedly the show will end in 2010. That leaves 3 seasons with 16 uninterupted episodes each - for a whopping total of 48 episodes left. You might not get your answer to the very end!

They have yet to revisit it. They really need to though because of what a big deal they made of Walt being "Special." Ben was very adament about letting people know how "Special" Walt is which is why I believe Walt was probably able to see and speak with Jacob. Walt is going to have to come back sometime soon. Maybe thats the huuge plot twist for the finale tomorrow night? Thats my opinion and I'm sticking with it.

I have a big feeling that we will be seeing one or both of them on the season finale tomorrow nite. There is NO way that they were allowed to leave the island. NO way at all. I kind of think that they were trying to recast Walt, as he grew too big for the role and I think the actor playing Michael only wanted to be a part time player because he didn't want to live in Hawaii.

Harold Perrineau (Michael) did not want to continue his contract and wanted out. So they wrote in that he and Walt would leave the island. Would be difficult to write Walt back into the episodes as the boy has hit puberty and is over 6 foot tall.

They will explain in the next seasons.
They DO have an ending. Season 6, the next three seasons being 16 episodes each starting in January.

Actually, the guy who plays Michael was offered a part in the finale but he turned it down. So I guess they were going to revisit it, but the guy refused.

They've never addressed it - but I swear I saw a trailer with Michael holding a gun on the Others. It could have been an hallucination, but I don't think so. Maybe just my brain warp, but hopefully I'm right.

You missed it. Linderman stole his kid so he could rig the election for the flying man. It didnt work out, Micheal ended up getting shot again but managed to pull out Linderman's brain before dying.
Look at it on the DVD collection.
