I was wondering if i could use ammonia to wash my white clothes. Also, what other things can I use on my white clothes, besides bleach, to get them white.

I have just fallen in love with Borax. I picked it up at Walmart in the laundry aisle. I had read about it from Dear Heloise and other cleaning books, and finally bought it. I just got old stains out of my carpets today, and cleaned my garbage disposal. The stuff has directions on the box. It's amazing for laundry, too. FYI, cheap, too.

I like Oxi-Clean. It works really well on whites, along with hundreds of other uses. If you don't want to buy that, then add baking soda to your detergent which softens the water allowing your detergent to work better. Always rinse whites twice. Then you should notice a difference in your whites. I wouldn't use ammonia, unless the directions say you can.

Borax is an awesome cleaner if you have been using bleach on your whites and they get yellow another thing to do is there is a product called bluette and its basically a blue dye that is used to stop the yellowing effects of bleach its just a cap full mixed with water will make them whiter then before..

Cascade dishwasher powder is a trick used by culinary professionals to keep their whites white - and not turning yellow. It is also pretty darn good on stains too!

You can just pop it into the washer as you would your regular detergent.

White vinegar can be added to the water to keep your clothes smelling fresh and clean too.
