Doctors, books, and friends (especially ones who have never been pregnant) will all tell you different things. There has never been a study to see what the effects are, but there are no known correlations. Yes, it is a little risky to put chemicals on your head that may or may not enter your body. But there is no evidence that dying hair during pregnancy can do any harm. So in reality, it's just a matter of how "careful" you want to be, some people don't want to take a chance on something, even if there is no proof that it is bad. The only thing I know that is an issue, is that your hair acts different when you are pregnant, so the dye might react differently, and you can have results that you didn't expect.

yes for two reasons....1) it can get into your scalp and into your bloodstream and then to your baby. and 2) your hair itself can change during pregnancy and highlighting can damage the hair itself. My co-worker swore she didn't know she was pregnant until she was about 2 months along and she found out by going for a perm! She had them regularly since she was about 16 but this time half of her hair broke off. The hairdresser asked if she was pregnant! That's when she went home for a pregnancy test that came back positive. Ironically now she has more natural curl in it than she did before her baby.
good luck

Yes, it is not okay to dye or bleach or perm the hair during pregnancy. The blood vessels are very close to the surface of the scalp and make for an easy entrance to the body. Time to enjoy the au naturel look. This is especially important in early pregnancy. Check with your doctor before you do any of that stuff, no tanning either!!

There is not real proof that hair bleach or dyes may affect pregnancy, but it is unwise to use it during the first trimester. I dyed my hair during my pregnancy but only once and I did in a very open space, so make sure you do it in a place with plenty fresh air so you do not have to breathe all the chemicals.

Some people say its ok to do stuff to your hair and some people say NO. I dyed my hair when I was 8 weeks pregnant and after that I read online that it can harm the baby so I was so scared. Went in for a dr's check up and my baby was fine. I honestly don't think it will harm your baby. I see a lot of pregnant get their hair done and stuff while they are pregnant. If it was something that can harm the baby the beauty salon/hairdresser wouldn't want to risk it and do it for you because you might end up suing them or something. Just don't try to inhale the smell of it too much. Open all the windows or wear a dust mask.

yes the chemicals seep into your scalp and into the blood stream and can cause problems with the baby if you still want to highlight your hair have your stylist use an organic hair dye it maybe more expensive but much safer for the baby

Yes there are risks, don't chemically alter your hair in anyway during pregnancy. Also, don't go tanning or get tan in a can either.
