A smart general ed teacher at the beginning of the school year should "put in writing" a request to your building's special ed staff requesting that they provide you with a list of 1) every special ed or special needs student who is in your class; 2) every student who is on a 504 plan (this is a biggie) ; 3) a DETAILED list of accommodations that need to be provided, 4) the student's strengths and weaknesses. Send a copy of this request to your building principal and request that you receive a reply within two weeks. Since you are legally bound to provide support to these students (according to the details of their IEP and 504 plan), you first need to make sure that you have that information. Embarrassingly, most teachers don't receive the info they are legally bound to provide. So, get smart, ask, get it put in writing, and protect yourself!

I'm not sure, but I do know that gen ed teachers are to follow the childs IEP plan. So many of them dont', and some of them don't even know the child has an IEP plan.
