Yes, I know it's a dumb question, but...some people in Toronto would be irritated if Doug Gilmour is bypassed by Forsberg (after all, if you're a Maple Leafs fan, Gilmour is the greatest thing since sliced bread). If the rumors are true and Forsberg decides to hang up the skates, would he measure up to the greats in the Hall? I say yes. The numbers don't lie: 640 regular season games, 235 goals, 581 assists, 816 points, well over a point a game. In the postseason, Foppa was golden: 139 gms, 61 g, 101 a, 162 pts. Plus I alsomost left out a few little details: a Clader Trophy (1995), a Ross (2003), a Hart (2003), two Stanley Cup rings (1996 and 2001), and two Olympic Gold medals (1994 and 2006). Not only that, he is a two-time Triple Gold (Olympic medal, World Championship medal, Stanley Cup) member (only two other NHLers can say that). The long-term body of work may not compare with Gretzky and Lemieux, but Forsberg was just as great!

Yeah, I know. I spelled Calder wrong. Other than that, the answers here are really great. Keep up the great work everyone!

I think the display is already built, they are just waiting to unveil it. No doubt about it.

I'm biased against Gilmour, but I loved him as Tim "Dr. Hook" McCracken in Slapshot.

Somebody laugh.

Enough about Dougie, yes Foppa should go in as soon as he is eligible.

Unfortunately, Foppa may not play long enough to get into the Hall. Yes, he USED to be the best player in hockey. But not for a while now. Its kind of like Mike Mussina in baseball. He's been a great pitcher for quite some time, but ... Forsberg is on the bubble. Won't bother me if he makes it, but that's still kind of an iffy subject. And, yes, I like the Avs. Peter Forsberg vs Joe Sakic. I'd take Super Joe any day, even now.

I am not sure what Forsbergs double standard of play is according to one of the answerers but I will give my opinion anyways. Personally I think Peter Forsberg is a great hockey player, but I dont think he deserves to be in the HOF because of his fragility. I cannot remember the last time that Forsberg was able to play a full season, but I doubt he has done it this decade. The fact that he has averaged about 50 or 60 games a season throughout his career is a definite drawback. I would never say that he faked any of his injuries but the fact of the matter is, to make the Hall Of Fame you should have to put up Hall Of Fame numbers throughout your career, just not for parts of seasons. If you put Forsberg in then you have to put that other injury prone Centre Lindros in and I dont think either one of them have proven themselves durable enough to belong in the HOF. If you average Forsbergs numbers out it shows an average of less than 20 goals and 50 assists a season certainly not HOF numbers for a number one centre.

All 3 of them are hall of famers. Andreychuk: 640 objectives, 1338 factors, Stanley Cup Tkachuk: 538 objectives, between the perfect american NHLers, his induction will make the effort in spite of the undeniable fact that Forsberg: 885 pts in 708 gms, +238, 2 olympic golds, 2 Cups

I just thought this was worth mentioning: he's twice a member of the "Triple Gold Club." Which is when you win the Stanley Cup, the World Championship, and the Olympic hockey tournament. There are only 18 members of this. Some of them include:
Joe Sakic
Jaromir Jagr
Brendan Shanahan
Rob Niedermayer

Peter Forsberg's one of the better playmakers to play in the NHL too, for sure...

Forsberg is a shoo-in. The Gretzky and Lemieux comparison is not very good, but everything else you say here is right on. That said, I think Gilmour should be in, too. He was one of the premier leaders of his time, and put up pretty darned good numbers for someone who played as well in his own end as in his opponent's. I wouldn't call Gilmour a shoo-in, though.

Yes, I'd put Forsberg in. He's got the numbers, he's got a couple Cups, plenty of hardware, a postage stamp... sorry. Yeah, he should go in. On a team with some great players, he didn't have to carry the weight, but he still managed to shine. He did manage to achieve superstar status and hold it. He goes FA, there will still be a demand for him at nearly 34 years of age.

Forsberg will definately be in the HOF. I can't stand him and I don't think he was ever the greatest player in the world like some did but, I have to admit he was one of the greates.

One of my previous questions was who else thought he was over-rated and wouldn't do anything for Nashville. I think we know how that turned out. Now he is a distraction at best.

i am biased. i don't like forsberg for his double-standard style of play. and i don't want him to make it. however, you have some good points, and as much as i hate to admit it, i think you are correct. he will make the HOF. and i also hate to admit, that he deserves it. he is a good hockey player. i just don't like his style of play.

however, i DO agree w/ those that say that Gilmour should make it before Forsberg. hands down. i have so much more respect for Gilmour. what a tough guy!

add - good questions, man. and some good answers. these are the types of Q&A, that i miss.

Of course, his goal in the 94 olympics is in a stamp in Sweden. Is there any other hockey player in a stamp?
