I just returned from St. Thomas. I heard for the first time that the Danes still own the port. Is that true?

short answer is no.

The port in St Thomas is operated by the VI Port Authority, an arm of the VI Government.......and they own the cruise ship dock at Crown Bay

the big cruise ship dock at Havensite is currently owned by the VI Government Employees Retirement System ( its a LONG story) .

It used to be owned and operated by the ( Danish ) West India Company, but no longer...WICO has a contract to operate the docks at Havensight but no ownership

Update: Cant imagine why there's a thumbs down for reporting facts......

The United States Virgin Islands are territiries (commonwealth) of the USA. The United States Immigration and Border Patrol and the USA Customs are the ones that protect the shores of those islands.

When you go to those islands and come back to the US you have to go through customs because they are dutty free ports.
