Upgrading the RAM is cheap, easy, and effective. Visit www.crucial.com and use the site's system scanner to see what your options are. The maximum RAM for the 2400 is two gigs. But if the machine currently has 512 MB RAM, you'll see a big difference just by upgrading to one gig.

Also, make sure you do regular anti-virus and anti-spyware scans to keep malware from getting a foothold on your computer and sucking up your computing power for nothing useful.

Using the Disk Cleanup tool will clear some space off your hard drive and also help performance a little.

Finally, once in a while, do a scandisk and defrag. You don't have to do this every day or even every week; once every three months would be more than enough.
