I'm on Seasonale and a few months ago I was put on amoxicillin and had unprotected sex...nothing happened...Now I was just recently put on a different antibiotic (dont know the name) but it was only a five day dose so I'm guessing it is stronger than amoxicillin...what are my chances of getting pregnant since I didn't get pregnant last time I was on antibiotics? Please only serious answers..

I know antibiotics can affect the birth control pill - your doc should have told you too. I wouldn't take the chance and assume it would take a month to get your body used to the pill again - like when you first started taking it.

Good Luck

I am in the same situation...I am on minocyclin for acne and am on the pill. My dermatologist brushed off my concerns that the antiobiotic would weaken the effect of the pill, so I called my gyno. The nurse said that it would be fine. This is so even thought the insert (info) for the antibiotic said it would reduce the effectiveness of birth control and that you should use another form of contraception. I think the chance is really really slight that you will get pregnant, but you still have to be warned.

So I'm super confused, but I'm so not ready to get pregnant that my boyfriend and I use a condom every time even though we both don't like it. Just being extra careful!

Anytime you take antibiotics while on birth control it will make your birth control pretty much non-existant. So u are always at a higher risk of getting pregnant while taking them. However its hard to say if that means u would definately get pregnant since everyones body works differently. Id just say use a back up plan just incase like condoms. Besides its always best to practice safe sex! Best of luck to you!

Any time you take antibiotics it has a *chance* of deactivating your birth control and allowing you to get pregnant. If you ask your doctor, I'm sure he or she will tell you to use a backup method for the rest of the cycle to avoid pregnancy. Just because you didn't get pregnant last time doesn't mean you won't this time...thousands of people have to try for months or years to get pregnant, but eventually it happens.

When using antibiotics, you should always use a back up method. You could very well get pregnant.

Wanted to add: I was on Zithromax, or the Z-pack. Its a five day antibiotic. Probably the one you're on.

Some antibiotics cancel out birth control. Talk to your doctor or pharmacist, and be sure to use alternate methods of birth control while you are on antibiotics.

call the pharmacy, you need to be careful. Not all antibiotics will inhibit bc, but you should use a back up while you are on the meds.
