May has 31 days.

Full moons are about 28 days apart.

so if there is a full moon in the first couple of days of May, there will be another one in the last couple of days.the second full moon of any month is called a "blue moon" and this expression has become shorthand for a rare event.

Because the lunar month is shorter than the calendar month. Thus, the full moon on May 2 will be repeated 29 1/2 days later on May 31.

Since the moon has a "complete phase cycle of 29.5 days average duration", if you have a FULL moon extremely early in the month (especially a long month of 31 days), you will get a second full moon at the end of the month. This is usually referred to as a "blue" moon.

Because the lunar month is 28 days, rather than 31 (like may).

Happens about once a year, that one month will have 2 full moons.

In one month the moon rotates the earth 2 times, going through 2 phases of the moon.

That second full moon is the famous 'Blue Moon'. It happens because there are 13 lunar months in a solar year. So once a year, you get two full moons, one near the beginning of the standard month, and one near the end of it.
