I say - no saying is true unless you make it so...you don't use it you lose it is bullsh*t to me, if it is something you love to use but don't have the chance how could you possibly lose it. Would it fade from your memory never to be thought of again ? NO you will never lose something you cherish even after an eon of yearning to use it one more time...the saying can only be applied to things within the mind as a possession is not lost unless you chose to let it go or sell it and the saying doesn't go if you don't lose it you'll sell it or it'll get stolen does it? Now your mind is your own private Idaho..some things you can safe guard like fort knox, others you chose to let fade and then there are the ones you can never lose (sometimes good and sometimes bad as you and I both know). So this saying just got washed into the gutter to be flushed out into some recycling plant cause it's utter bullsh*t.
But that's just my opinion.

Yes I do. Probably good example is doing math. I used to be pretty good at math, but I happened to pick up an algebra book the other day, and realized, I have forgotten an awful lot of stuff I worked with.
I think I could "relearn" it, but that is a good example of losing it if you don't use it.

Depends on what it is. I think you can regain anything if you put some will power into it. So, no, I don't think you lose it, I think maybe you only lose the desire to work for it.

Oh dear sweet merciful God I hope not.
Otherwise, the guy who works at the 'Lost and Found' desk is really going to freak out.

It would depend on what you are refering to.
Learning: If something is truly learned, then no.
Opportunities: Yes. Missing them is missing your one and only shot.
And who knows the other possibilities.

Absolutely. I once had an ingrown toenail clipper. I never used it, but once I needed it years later it was nowhere to be found.

Can be true, depending on the circumstances...
Dragon ain't going to go in any detail though. It is not appropriate to discuss in public. ;)

I don't know about losing it, but without regular use it surely will atrophy
