Wahoo for an interesting question!
I think there are at least two possibilities: one, technology speeds up so much that we can overcome any biological/ecological deficiencies; two, people can't stand living with each other and we kill ourselves off.
If you think about the rate at which technology is improving, it's not unlikely to believe that we'll be able to control our own physiology and the planet's health with it. Nanotechnology is growing rapidly; prices are falling and capabilities are rising. I'm betting that within 100 years (at most - probably more like 40), we'll be able to cure diseases, think on a ridiculously higher level, and provide food for anyone who wants it. Technology will be everywhere: in our showers, in the walls and in our brains. As for overall society, that's unpredictable. We'll be dealing with a new state of consciousness. Either we'll work together (laughable given human history), or we'll continue to try and beat the other man.
So, this IS a technological singularity.
The other outlook is death to all humans. I hope this doesn't mean death to the planet. Will humans be sensible enough to leave other forms of life as they are? Probably not, as indiscriminate killing seems to be all the rage these days. Maybe some people will survive and build a new society - that's really cliche, my apologies.
Of course, there could be a happy (ignorant) medium. Maybe people will stop having faith in technology, and we'll be a bunch of hippies - like a huge Ancient Greece. That wouldn't be so bad, and no one would care if you were homosexual.

The world is changing so fast I believe the human species will find a way to wake everyone up and we will rally to find a better way to live. The human race as whole will be considered one family and peace on Earth will be shared and honoured throughout future generations.
We just need to find our game and then take home the trophy.
Time is on our side.

Petroleum runs dry by 2050 latest. Coal runs out by 2500 latest. In the year 3000 the world's resources will be utterly exhausted in all venues. Cities will have been demolished to recover their reduced metals. The world will look like North America prior to European discovery - Neolithic hunter-gatherer nomads dying early and often.
Overall planetary human population will be 100 million or so sickly undernourished people (including chubby priests issuing threats of damnation and promises of afterlife in mythical cities. "'Hodie mihi, cras tibi!' or be damned", they will scream).
