I know what the dictionary says, and have made a living from it.
I want to know what you think.
If you think that it is useless, and worthless, support it, and although that is not what I think, I may pick your answer, I have done it before.
If you think that it has great value, support that opinion.
Thank you!

Science has great value. Science, which is the pursuit of knowlege, is responsible for technological advances such as the automobile, the computer, electrical items such as the lightbulb, the generator, your refrigerator, and medicines that protect and save life. Without the advances of science the human race would still be using clubs, rocks and spears to hunt for food and occasionally end up being the lunch of some monsterous predator. Science is an honest enterprise that deals in facts and proof and may have cured man of his gross superstitions that were responsible for the dark ages, the Spanish Inquistion and the Witch hunts in New England...just to mention a few. One day, science may lead us to the Master Designer of the universe.....or maybe help the human race escape from some future cosmic catastrophe. Science, yes give me more...along with the continuing maturing of the human race.

Science is not only of great value it is the only thing truly of value. It won't depreciate like money or possessions. It exists whether or not we choose to acknowledge it. The scientific method is the single most important way to find the facts about anything from gravity to a simple high school chemistry experiment. Science and the study thereof is the driving force behind everything. If people throughout time had not devoted their time to science, to gaining understanding of the workings of the world around us, we would most assuredly be in permanent ignorance.

Science ultimately pursues two questions at once. Where has our sentient species come from and where is it going next? These are 2 essential questions that give meaning to existence. Strict religion would have us believe that these 2 questions have simple black and white answers when in fact the answers are clouded in a thick fog of gray. Science is our light that illuminates our slow cumbersome journey through the fog.

I would argue that science is the foundation for all human progress. Everything that has improved the quality of life for mankind is a product of science. To me, science is finding out how the world works, and using that information to make our lives better. Whether it be engineering to make better machines or medical breakthroughs to keep us healthy, all of it stems from science.
