I have stayed at both. I would much rather stay at Sam's Town. It is actually my favorite casino in Vegas. They offer a lot more than most other casino's, including a movie theatre, bowling alley, and one of the best prime rib dinners I have had in Vegas. The rooms are nothing special, standard Vegas hotel rooms and the pool is nothing fancy. The buffet was recently redone and is considered a favorite of the area. The area is not a bad area, it is just a bit more remote than some of the other casino's. I would say that the Stratosphere is in a much worse area, and it's on the strip. The gaming area is very extensive, however the poker room is quite small. They do offer a rather large sports book and a Bingo Parlour. There is also a large walk through atrium with a glass ceiling and a lazer light show.

The embassy suites might as wellbe a motel. Its just closer to the strip.

Well they are too VERY different places. Sams Town is a full blown casino hotel with everything that comes with it (good and bad) while the Embassy is a non-gaming hotel. Sam's casino is quite smokey compared to some of the newer strip places.

The Embassy is located much closer to the action on the strip, being directly across the street from Hard Rock but it still isnt walking distance to the strip.

Sams is a good 6 or 7 miles away from the strip and the neighborhood isnt that great but you probably wont be walking around there much anyway. You would be either in the hotel or in your car since there isnt very much right around it anyway.

The decision will come down to what exactly you are looking for in your Vegas vacation. For most people, if these are your only 2 choices, I would go with the Embassy Suites despite not having a casino onsite.

Sam's Town *is* smoky. It's got a unique atmosphere because they try to cater to local las vegasans more than tourists.

I'd stay at Embassy Suites.

Stay at Embassy...Sam's is considered a locals casino - it is smoky and the neighborhood can be iffy after dark, plus its fairly far (relatively speaking) from the strip.
