I work in a fiance firm.

There is my local office (only a 20 minute round trip), and the downtown office (3 hour round trip).

My boss tells me that there is NO work available for me in my local office, and that I'm going to have to be working out of the downtown office for some time.

To get there, I would take the bus. The bus adds an un-necessary level of stress and eats away 3 hours of my day.

I don't want to lose the job, but, I need to "go where the work is." I'm not sure what to do.

IDeas? Suggestions? Comments? Thanks

Have you discussed how long this change would be for? If you do, make your boss aware of the commute time, if he doesn't already know.

If he does know, he may be offering you a not so subtle clue that your services would be best served elsewhere.

I'd find a new job as soon as possible if I were you.

i dont think they can suggest such a thing that causes you so much up heaval, but the alternative would be to lay you off. surely in this day and age of computers etc you can still fullfill duties no matter where you are if its office duties. suggest you go there one day a week to pick up and drop off stuff and the rest of the time work from your current location if that is feasable

WOW... what a PITA that is going to be. Is the job worth a move?... maybe an ocasional hotel stay?... or you could quit and punch your boss in the face for putting you in such a predicament!!!

You have three choices:

1 - live with the commute.

2 - Move nearer your downtown office

3 - Find another job.

Good Luck, a three hour commute is a bit much, I'd find another job.

I would mention to him the stress of traveling 3 hours a day everyday. He should be care about that. Then again I don't know your boss but I would definetly talk to him about it.

use those 3 hours to your advantage, read the book you never got around to reading, catch up with friend by text messaging (or talking quietly on cell). Meet up with other riders and just chat.

You can't travel three hours out of your day - that's just crazy!

Contact a temp agency and get a resume' to them! I am sure they can place you somewhere closer to home.

Good luck! :)

I'd find out if it's a permanent situation of just temporary. After that you could make your decision.

work there and do what you are told for the moment but look for another job..its so much easier to find one when you have a job then when you don't..
