"Elias" (Eh-lee-us)

You may want to reconsider the spelling... it really depends on how you want it said.

I read your name, Ilias, as (Ee-lee-us). So if it's not meant to be pronounced that way... I might look at the "E" spelling. If it is... then no trouble.

Personally, I think it's cute and different. I wouldn't worry about him being made fun of. I mean really... with the odd things people want to name their kids these days, who's to say there won't be someone with something more strange then "Ilias". I think the problem with saying that he will be made fun of or teased... is people are using that name in classes of kids now... and not classes of kids years from now.

I like the name, but think about a boy as he hits the fifth or sixth grade and maybe there are some boys bigger than he is and then ilias becauses i lie ***. Way too easy to make fun of that name.

I'm reading this as the Arab form Ilyas. If that's correct, you might want to just go with the traditional spelling. It's one thing to be able to say "we wanted to reflect our heritage, and Ilyas is a common Arabic form of Elijah," and quite another to say "well Ilyas is a real name, but we're not Arabic and/or didn't like how it looked, so we changed the Y to an I and pronounce it just like Elias ..." Make sense? ;)

I do like Elias, which many have mentioned, so if familiarity is a concern and you're NOT trying to honor Arab ancestry, this might be a great option for you. You might also consider Ilia (Russian), Elia (Italian), Ellis, Elliott/Eliot or simply Elijah.

Hope that helps. ;)

How much thought have you put into this? Is it gonna be easy for him to pronounce? What about his teachers? Are other kids gonna make fun of his name? Does it go well with the middle and last name? These are all questions you need to ask before you name your child. It's a different name, and if you're happy with it, then don't worry about it.

Unusual names with unusual spellings is a sure way for your child to be bullied and for his teachers to constantly misspell and mispronounce his name.

Believe me, this name is a setup for a lifetime of difficulty.

Prepare to tell everyone who sees it in print, how to pronounce it. Elias may be a better spelling.

Different and unique. I love it and respect your decisions on any name you pick. It doesn't have to be normal like Joe or Josh... make it your own! Be unique!
