I am African American and I sometimes wish I weren't. I do everything right. I went to college and graduate school, I pay my bills, I don't bother anyone, but I still find myself a victim of racism. The racism I suffer is not always at the hands of white people either. Some African Americans treat me with disdain as well. I never did anything to anyone and I just wonder if there is anyone else out there like me.

I never said that white people were the only people who could be racist. I was just pointing out that usually African Americans who speak of racism speak of it from white people, and that does not say white people are the only racist people. I think people from all races can be racist against someone who they percieve as different. Get a grip to who ever said I need to learn that white people are the only people who can be racist ---that is NOT what I said or meant. Read the whole question.

I'm sorry to hear that. No, I don't, although as I live in a white neighbourhood, I probably fit in.
But people, no matter their colour or creed, are often nasty. If it helps, I hated living in my neigbhourhood when we first moved here, because they were so awful to us. I've lived in a Jewish area where we were treated abominably.
I keep myself to myself now, have found good friends and value them. I don't think that you're treated in a racist way - I think people are just often, really nasty.
And sometimes it might come across as racism - because there is no other name to call you, if you know what I mean. I don't know how many times I've been told to "go back where you came from" type of comment. " It's just an expression so that they don't have to actually verbalise what is wrong - it's easy to pick on a redhead because heshe is readhead.
Does that make sense?
You're fine, you know that deep inside. Lift your head high and feel sorry for the ignorant people you have to live/work near.

No matter which race you'd be, you would always experience some problems because of it. Every race experiences racism and discrimination of some sort. Sadly there will always be racists among us. All we can do is to just do our best to be good people and live a good life and ignore the racist fools. You know that the reason they treat you like this is not because you are somehow not good enough, but because THEY (the racists) are ignorant idiots.

i am Puerto Rican and Irish but i have never really had anyone be racist towards me. im sorry to hear that but i know even someones own race can be prejudice against them which i find very disturbing and terrible. why cant the world just get along? i hate when people have to go thru things like this cuz it just tears the world farther apart and theres no need to be saying terrible things to someone cuz of their race or even religion or gender or sexual preferance or whatever. it isnt fair and you this shud give u more of a reason to be proud of who you are. you're african american, you take care of urself and u do good in school and everything u do and thats what people shud see not ur color. im sorry u have to go thru that but be proud and never be ashamed of what or who u are then that just shows the haters they've won.

I am sorry to hear about that. Please do not let those people get to you. you seem to have a good head on you shoulders and are going places. maybe they are just jealous of you. but no, i don't wish i was another race. There is nothing wrong with other races, but i like who i am and i think you should be proud of who you are. Sadly there will always be bigots and racist out there. I know it prob easier said than done, but just try to ignore them. I wish you the best!

i know its hard... but you have to find your own self-worth, i hate sterotypes, but unfortunatlely they are everywhere and unfortunatley held against to certain races, cultures etc.... i live in australia and the black people here are sterotyped to be drunk, welfare hungry.... but i know many aborginies who have broken the sterotype and everyone has great respect for them... so break out of the sterotype find your self - worth and take on the world.... i know it sounds corny, but shove those insults back in their face by showing what u got! I wish i were of a darker race, i burn in the sun at 7am! lol and my boyfriend is really dark too, and my whole family and im a glow stick!

There will be stupid people no matter where you go or what you do. Just hold your head up high, and surround yourself with positive people. I am black and proud. There is nothing you can do to change your race. Just live your life and dont stress yourself out with ignorant people.

You'll never be good enough in the eyes of another race, and you have become a victim of your own race because our minds have been conditioned, over the years, to believe that we aren't good enough, and thats why when someone is doing good someone has to find something negative to say, think, or do to that person of their same race..... It's all a part of "the plan" to get rid of us black/African Americans. It's actually working.... What you need to ask is what can we do to change our situation.... we can start with the small stuff... Like start loving each other to the point we TEACH each other different thing from different point of views instead of letting our brother or sisters destroy themselves because we dont wanna see no body do better than us. The biggest problem is that us black folks have been lied to sooooo long that we nowhere close to the truth, and so we make up our own truths because it helps us to feel as if we are in control.... Lets get it through our heads first that BLACK FOLK ARE NOT IN CONTROL! We are exposed to hate in truth and love in lies (thanks to slavery) so what do we do now??????? And I LOVE BEING BLACK ITS A SHAME :D

These people are not worth your worry or bother. There will always be those jealous of you, or not liking you for silly reasons...colour, religion, size, your career...etc... Continue on and don't let unhappy people ruin your life with stress.
