Corn and other greens can be used to create alternative fuels. It is automatically first choice since we can grow more corn if needed.
And yes, I rather see our farmers get richer than Arab states. When we all will get with the program, we will stop being defendant on oil and save money for the consumer.
Green power!

NO, it is not better for farmers to get rich than the countries who sell us oil! Ethanol from corn benefits only the farmers and the politicians from farm states. The consumer pays more for gasoline, and more for food. Ethanol from corn is a hoax as far as being a partial solution to the energy crisis. The making and transportation of ethanol takes almost as much energy as the ethanol creates.
We must get serious and adopt a national energy policy that is not written by the oil companies, as the last one was. Hopefully, our next president will take the lead on this issue.

We need a technological breakthrough, and then it will make sense to get fuel from biomass. What we need is an improved way to make cellulase enzymes that would make it possible to use waste products from plants to make fuel, such as cornstalks. Right now we can only get fuel from the sugary and starchy parts of plants, which is why it hurts our food supply to redirect corn for fuel use.
We do need to develop biomass and other alternative fuels, but until the technology catches up, we may need to revisit the tax credits for ethanol production if we end up driving food prices too high.

Bio-diesel made from sugar cane is much more efficient, much cleaner, and would not affect other staple prices to the extent that "corn fuel" does.
But farm lobbyists are very powerful - at least the federal government isn't paying them to destroy the corn they grow.

A lot of the farmers in the Midwest had a seriously wet year, and planted crops later than usual. Also, these food items will cost more, because gas is up. (transporting them to market).
Most groceries as well as textiles and other goods are up as well.

With thousands of people starving to death around the world every single day I have serious problems with using 'food' to make fuel for cars! We should be pushing for more efficiency in everything so as to reduce our consumption. Let's hurt the Arabs and the oil companies by using less of their product!

Sounds good! We (Canada) will end providing you. jointly as we are at it, why do no longer we decrease off our grant of coal, sparkling water, softwood lumber, potash, uranium, and grain? You adult males have relaxing down there consisting of your "activity creation." we will merely sell each and every thing to China instead. they are going to ought to pay greater for it anyhow, as a results of fact we will not ought to bypass via NAFTA. by ability of ways, your geography (and geology) are slightly off. China, Canada, and Brazil are no longer composed of Arabs and Saudi Arabia has the international's best oil reserves. Canada is 2d. the U. S. ranks as #14. regardless of the shown fact that, in case you seem on the production numbers, the U. S. is third...which to me might point out that the U. S. is producing oil (i.e. drilling) greater promptly than worldwide places with a larger grant. What else ought to you like?

I'd prefer any American worker to get rich on my money over any foreigner anyday! Not to mention the poor opinion those folks seem to have of women-it galls me to give them a cent of my hard earned money!
