You are joking right.

Canada has a socialist medicine program. People flock to the US to pay for it out of their own pocket. Why? Because you have to wait so long for many treatments that you are dead before you get them

It's their fault they are fat? That is a little harsh...

Also my understanding of the Canadian Health Care System is that they offer free visits and check ups but you still have to pay for a lot of the meds. The meds aren't free. You basically can find out what is wrong with your for free, but to get better costsyou money still. It's not like FREE healthcare that us americans seems to believe. And yes, Americans are afraid of anything socialist. But public education, is socialist in my opinion. I think the Canadian Healthcare system could work in America, but the person above me who said that the medical industry is too powerful was right. Pharm company's especially. Every "greatest nation" has it's problems, Britain had them, the Romans had them, all the others had them as well.

I think that Americans are afraid of any form of Universal Healthcare because they are afraid their taxes will increase. And when ever you talk about a rise in taxse people flip. So, it makes it tricky to discuss things like Universal Healthcare.

Our system is corrupt. The drug industry, the insurance industry, and the medical association all contribute money to political campaigns so the politicians do what they want. Did you know that 40 % of the money spent on health care in the US is just for filling out paper work? Not for medicine, doctors, nurses, lab tests--just for bureaucratic paper shuffling. There have been attempts to fix the problem--Hillary Clinton offered a plan in about 1993 or so but the drug companies invested in the most expensive advertising campaign in history to convince the people to kill it, so it never happened. Ironic, isn't it--the American medical system is itself a cancer and since it resists treatment successfully it will kill its victim. WILL, not "might". If you want health care you'd better move to a country that does not have a corrupt health care industry.

Oooooh...you might be in some dangerous territory there....

My experience on this forum is that Americans see the Canadian healthcare system as socialist...something greatly feared these days. I, like you, believe it is high time the US got a national healthcare program rolling. It is shameful that a country that calls itself the Greatest Nation in the World has millions of people who cannot afford to go to the doctor. There will always be glitches in a government run medical program....but it will be offered to all - and that is what is really important.
