How can intelligent people know so much about the universe and biology and and life and death and psychology and quantum reality and still think there’s a petulant guy with a beard sitting up in the sky wearing white robes watching us and judging and sending some to heaven with harps and some to hell with red horns?

Its superstition. Look at human history--real scientific understanding of how the universe operates is only about 300 years old. Before that, rain came because God was happy (or He was sad, or He was mad), or because you said the right prayers to a rain god. Crops failed because you didn't sacrifice your daughter. The human mind is smart enough to look for connections, but for a long time it did not have a real way to understand the real connections, and now with scientific method, it does. But still, the mind is largely controlled by the irrational, emotional side. If you want to motivate people in advertising for example, talking to their rational minds is basically useless--you set up emotional reactions and then they will do what you want. Political leaders have always found this to be a much more successful way of controlling people than by trying to be rational with them, even though facts are whats real, and emotional appeals are not.

Its the fact that were so intelligent that we can come up with these thoughts of a higher being and life after death and the thought of good coming after death in alot of peoples eyes is a good one to have!

What's so controversial about it? It just means you've never experienced God in your life, because if you had, you would know it doesn't have anything to do with intelligence. And, are we really so intelligent about the world? We still have a very long way to go as far as knowledge....

Our body was intended for everything God made us to be. When you have a relationship with your own creator you will feel better than you can imagine. no one knows what God looks like, if anything. he could very well be a spirit. That is also why when we lie a lie detector can tell. Our bodies were made to be good. God has a plan, and the only way to know yours is to know him...

They also worship Liz Taylor an her Hallmark role, Queen of denial. Hopefully, they are not fundamentalists, and understand, we are created in the SPIRITUAL image, not the physical, of whatever name they choose to pray to.

You think they're odd for believing in a higher power, and they probly think you're odd for not believing. It's not a question of intelligence, it's a question of faith and personal belief systems.

I've personally never met anyone truly intelligent that believes in God. But some just need that security - no matter how intelligent people are they're always going to need that knowledge that there's something else.
But, to be honest, I don't know. I don't understand it at all.
