I thought that once the new congress was seated, having taken the majority by virtue of voters' unhappiness with the current administration, that there would be more toe-to-toe with the present administration. Instead, it appears that the Congress remains intimated -- fearful to take hard stands because they're afraid Rove and friends will pillorize them for doing so in the next election. Quite dismaying.

Yes, it's shameful, but it won't change until the citizens actually get informed (as opposed to seeking out statements to confirm their existing viewpoints) and reject personal attacks and sound-bite talking points.

Both sides of the aisle realize that anything in depth won't ever be aired, and certainly no one will take the time to listen to the complexity and nuance of the issues.

As a result, they are forced to govern as if 2nd graders were put in charge, and have to deal with issues at that level.

Yes.

It's their job.

Re-election = money

No re-election = out of a job

It's what they're there for...as long as we're in a free-market economy, it's all about where the money is and nothing else. You think Frito-Lay or Starbucks or Ford cares what they do or don't do to you?

They'll do or not do whatever they need to do to take a dollar out of your pocket.

Welcome to America.

Well, the only thing that I can say is that if the new Congress doesn't start standing up to him, they can be elected out as fast as they were elected in.

Well if the voters disagreed with Bush, then they would stand up or risk not being re-elected.

The problem is that the Democrats are bought & paid-for just like the Republicans. Most of them don't care about anything except money & power.

Maybe for just once , they took the politics out of it and are considering supporting our troops to win instead of waving the white flag.
