Let me ask you this; are the men you encounter better behaved than the women, or it just about personality?
What ever you choose, just have them spayed or neutered at the earliest age. Your vet will be able to tell you the proper age. Then sex will really make zero difference in the pet.

i think the female cat is better behaved. male cats are more rowdy, and tend to spray. i know this is the way they mark their territory, but it can cause an odor in the house. i'm not real sure of dogs.

More dependent on personality rather than gender.
I have known female animals that were very aggressive, and male ones that were very docile. But, spaying and neutering can keep aggression in check, and keep your pets healthy.

For Dogs, Females. Usually females are a little calmer also females don't go around marking their sent everywhere.

females; as males are more aggressive, especially cats, dogs are on a different scale, still females win.

I've seen good and bad manners in both genders. And in both species. Generally, a critter who is neutered or spayed is going to be calmer than one who is not.
