I think they are cheating the public out of the cheese and other items they could be putting there instead of bread. What do you think.

I think some crust is necessary to actually keep the cheese, sauce and toppings from sliding off the pizza in the oven.

However a 2" crust is excessive. I think you need to find a new pizza parlor.

There are many different types of pizza, even from fast food places like Pizza Hut. Try ordering hand tossed or thin crust or even St. Louis style which is on a cracker type crust if you don't like thick crust pizza. Chicago style is a deep pan pizza with the kind of edge you are talking about, avoid it if you don't like it.

Perhaps you should check out kinds of pizza, where they originated from and what is available to you in your community by doing an online search. Better yet, you could get some recipes and learn to make pizza yourself. Its better for you, you get to make it the way you like it, and you can even make pizza on a grill.

Mostly I've only seen that on places that are delivery only pizza places. That is very excessive. I don't always eat the crust either. Only if it's good and crispy. I would never go back to a place that served me a pizza with a 2" outer crust.

There are plenty of places that have toppings that go to the edge and even advertise that...doesn't one pizza joint have on called 'The Edge' even? I kinda like the plain edges though...as long as I have garlic butter dipping sauce for it. And not to mention, many pizza places offer crust toppers.

having worked at several different pizza establisments I was once told by someone who had to clean the ovens that the crust ring is a necessary evil to keep cheese. pork, beef, you know grease that might ignite in the oven. I don't eat the crust either.

It all depends on the pizza. If you get Sicilian pizza (the square type) most of the pieces do not have a crust.

Sorry to disappoint you but there are those of us who love the crust!! Believe it or not! I'm a bread person and absolutely love the crust. The crispier the better. Yum!

Of course they are cheating you. All that extra bread means they can say the large is 18" around! Bigger than the other guy's! Enough for all your friends! etc.

it makes it easy to grab. but i've only seen a 1-inch outer crust, so maybe your pizza places just suck.
