Of course it it is, the government are expecting a major loss in revenue when the ban on smoking in public places comes into effect and as usual are demanding the motorist makes up for that loss!!!

The reason why UK.gov is able to squeeze yet more money out of the already over taxed motoring public, is because road users in UK are easily divided against each other.
Motorists do not like truckers, do not like bikers, etc., and so it goes. The government use this to 'divide and rule'.
So, until all of us road users forget our differences and 'unit' as one, UK.gov will continue to levy massive tax upon road users.
What UK road users need is an organised political base which we can all join and one which will support all road users at all times. So for example, if extra tax is going to be collected from truckers, then all of us should stand up and protests and drive our cars at 0.5mph around Parliament Square until the UK.gov obey the will of the people. "No new tax".
Of course we will probably never do any of the above because we are all plain stupid.
As a motorist I do not look down on bikers or other motorists and I see truckers as Kings of the Road.
Road users of the UK unite. We have only to lose our road taxes.

Yes and no.
No in that road pricing of sorts is already in operation in London. While it does generate revenue, its aim is to reduce traffic in central London. And it works. One reason it does work is that the public transport network was improved before the charge came in.
The issue I have with the government on road pricing, is that they are not going to invest in public transport before introducing road pricing. Or rather, they are investing, but not enough. I do not mind being forced of the road, so long as there is a decent public transport system to use. But there is not. In order for me to get from East Anglia to Manchester without driving, involves me flying (with a huge cost to the ozone layer) or taking the more expensive train. And the train service is crap.
So, yes, what the government is proposing is a way to earm more money. It is a shame, because it is working in London where the money is improving public transport.

Yes of course it is! Labour are about making money any way they can. Have you heard the latest? They are talking about charging Council Tax on your garden, so if you have a nice big garden that you keep tidy, you'll pay more tax. Never mind the fact that a nice garden with plenty of flowers and greenery helps the climate by producing plenty of oxygen and using up carbon dioxide.
Okay flingebunt if you are right, what the hell do we pay our road tax for and the duty on petrol and all the other taxes the motorist pays? They amount to our 'ticket to ride'.

When it was first introduced, many years ago, the road fund tax (your tax disc) was intended to be used for the upkeep of Britain's roads. A later Chancellor decided to just add it to the pot, stating that the government would maintain the roads. Now it has become expensive, the road tax is used for other things, and the poor old motorist is going to have to pay twice for the privilege of using the roads! This mendacious government will stoop to everything to fund its own twisted agenda.

Well if people use a bus or train they have to buy a ticket, so cars using roads should be the same.
Roads cost money you know, not just the cost of building roads, but lost space, pollution and the medical costs of treating it, plus the huge number of people every year that die by the car (cars are the number 1 non-natural cause of death in the world).
So if you want to ride, you gotta pay the price.

its worse than that. All cars would need a tracking device for the system to work, so the government would know where you are at any time. As if the 4.5 million CCTV cameras weren't enough to feed their lust for control !
