I'm just curious, not sure how much it would cost or what kind of machine to get. I always wanted to know. I might just end up bringing a stick and puck to the next White Sox game where they clock the kid's fastballs lol.

Do yourself a favor and visit the hockey hall of fame in Toronto. They used to(can't be sure if they still do) have a radar gun and net set up there to try. Even if they don't it's so worth the trip.
I've also been to NHL games where they have something set up where you can pay 5 bucks for a few shots and the top person gets some prize.

Here's an easy way, not the most exact but darn close. Get a buddy with a stop watch to time your shot from impact to a certain distance. Measure from a wall or the boards 10 feet and take a slap shot at the boards from there, the time it takes can then be extrapolated out from 10 feet to 1 mile. Its the same as having a radar gun. Its not the most exact, but easiest and simplest.

Radar gun is the best bet, as far as something you might actually be able to scrounge up somewhere. Using a stop watch won't work very well, because even a mediocre shot will happen faster than someone can hit the button twice.
