If a slug in your garden travels 1 furlong per fortnight, how many minutes would it take for it to travel 73 cm.?
I'm horribly maths challenged ... can someone help out with this?
(my first time asking a question on answers and it has to be a math question *lol*)

Canada is sensibly metric :) This is an American question written by a deviant mind.
Thanks so much to all of you for the help in such a short time.

1 furlong = 201.168 meters (20,116.8 cm)
1 fortnight = 14 days
need more?
20,116.8 cm/ 14days = 1,436.91429 cm/day (1437 rounded)
since day = 1440 min
set up a proportion:
1,437cm:73 cm = 1440 min: x min
(73 * 1,440) / 1,437 = 73.1524008 mins to travel 73 cm
(thats just about 1cm per min!!)

What's a furlong? I thought you'd gone metric in Canada (like us in Australia!)
Yes, it's 220 yards, which is
220*36/39.37 metre,
or about 20116.84 cm in 14 days.
Hence it travels 1cm in
14/20116.84 days, which is about
0.016702 hours, or just over 1 minute.
Multiply this by 73 to find the time for 73 minutes, and you get the same answer as has already been given. However I see we don't all agree about units. As I recall
1 mile = 1760 yards = 8 furlongs, and so
1 furlong = 220 yards.
Each yard is 36 inches.
1 metre = 39.37 inches, so we divide the number of inches by 39.37 to see how many metre it is. Hence cm, etc.

A furlong is 660 ft and a fortnight is 14 days. We need to convert the speed of (660 ft) / (14 days) into the more palatable units of cm/min. We do this by multiplying by conversion factors that are always equal to 1. ((660 ft) / (14 days))*(12 in/ft)*(2.54 cm/inch)*(1 day / 24 hr)*(1 hr / 60 min) = 0.998 cm/min. To travel 73 cm requires (73 cm) / (0.998 cm/min) = 73.2 min.
Take note of how you construct a conversion factor. There are 2.54 cm in an inch. Therefore, the expression (2.54 cm/in) is equal to 1 because 2.54 cm and 1 inch are equal to each other. So multiplying by a conversion factor does not change a value, but it puts it in the units you desire.

Right lets keep it simple.....
1 furlong = 200 yards = 7200 inches = 18,288 cm (in a fortnight)
so we divide the distance by the time.....
14 days = 336 hours = 20160 mins
We have:
18,288 / 20160 = 0.90714 cm per minute
now we divide the 73 by this figure....
73 / .90714 = 80.47 minutes (or 1 hour, 28 minutes and 12 seconds)

1 furlong = 20,116.8 centimeters
20116.8 / 73
= 275.573
It takes a 276th of a fortnight to travel 73cm
There's 14*24*60 minutes in a fortnight
= 20160 minutes in a fortnight
A 276th of that is:
20160 / 275.573
= 73.1568
It takes just over 73 minutes.

a slug travels 1 furlong per fortnight.
1) Let us convert this speed into centimeter/minute
8 furlongs = 1 mile
1 mile = 5,280 ft
8 furlongs = 5,280 ft
1 furlong = 5280/8 = 660 ft
1 foot = 12 inches
1 inch = 2.54 cm
660 ft = 660 x 12 x 2.54 = 20,116.80cm
_________________________________
1 fortnight = 14 days
1 day = 24 hours
1 hour = 60 minutes
1 fortnight = 14 x 24 x 60 = 20,160 minutes
___________________________________
1 furlong/fortnight = 20,116.80 cm/20,160 min
= .9978 cm/min
______________________________
If the slug travels .9978 cm/minute, then to acquire a distance of 73 cm , it needs
.9978 x 73 = 72.8394 minutes or just
73 minutes.
