what exactly is it doing? what makes him think it has a burnt valve? is it a full size blazer (not sure if they made them in that year), s10 blazer (smaller)? which motor is in it (v6 - i'm assuming)? how many miles do you have on the vehicle?
if it is a valve problem, you'd have to take off the intake manifold, take off the head (side that is messed up), take it to the machine shop to have the head worked on (fix valve - might as well have them check it all out - or do both heads).
of course there are other things involved (unplugging stuff - sensors, etc.). if it's just a head job, i'd be looking to spend around $1.5K or so, for parts and labor. you need to determine if you have more life (mileage, etc.) left in the vehicle. g/l

It's like beauty, it's in the eye of the beholder! If you really like your car, it will take a few thousand to get it running properly. But remember, it always beats a car payment.
Also, how many miles do you have on the vehicle and what has already been replaced on the vehicle? For example: if you've already had the transmission overhauled or replaced, it would make sense to fix the engine since these two things are two of the major problems most cars have and you've already fixed one of them.
I would have the car checked out and see what other problems you may have in store on down the road, to see if would be a waste of time to fix it.
Hope this helps!

I have an 89 Suburban with 180,+ miles that just sucked a valve that I love also. I can get mine fixed for $500 and my truck is worth it b/c the truck is in better than good condition - (with a new transmission) so... it really depends on what the rest of the truck is like. It's cheaper than a new vehicle!

At least it's not down in the engine. You are looking at a $1000 to $1500 repair because they have to pull the heads... and who knows what else they will find.
Hope this helps you decide.

It's your car and you love it so why not get a few estimates from several shops and go from there.
