i need an explanation on the picture file formats, .GIF and .JPG.?

please be as precise as possible and also state the what the intials above mean.

Gif has a maximun color value of 255 i believe and is used for showing logo's etc. Jpeg can have a much higher number of colors. Gif also supports transparency which jpeg doesn't. And jpeg can add metadata to its format like when the picture was taken, exposure time, camera model etc
