Hi, we are three 21 year old guys going to live in the City of London. We are wondering what pet - if any - would suit our lifestyle. We will be living in a flat, and all working similar hours during weekdays, so there may not be anyone in from morning till early evening. Any suggestions?

I would suggest getting 2 cats...if you get one, it will be lonley while everyone's at work..so they could keep eachother company. i wouldn't get a dog...they need way more attention than a cat. or maybe you guys should just get a fish tank?? whatever you do know that all pets are lots of responsibility and you should really think about it before you get anything. maybe just live without a pet for a while and then gradually decide. good luck!!

Hey boys how are you? I would not get a pet that needs and wants alot of attention like a puppy or a kitten. Best bet would be a snake. If you did want something maybe a little more, umm, playful, you could get a cat, not a kitten. Once they are out of the kitten phase they are more independent and want interaction when THEY want it. If you got the cat, just spend time with it whenever you can (weekends too) so it can know you love it and it is apart of the family.
The only thing I would say for you guys is if one or all three of you move out, there may be a problem with who would keep the pet. You can become really attached so that may be an issue for you guys.
But best of luck to all three of you and just make sure that whatever you get, give it the attention it should have whenever you can =).

as none of you will be there all day a fish tank tropical or goldfish would be a better choice for you, they are hard work but unlike cats and dogs don't need so much attention, just regular food and water changes.
if you really want an animal with feathers or fur a hamster would be an option as they are awake all night and sleep all day, animals need love and attention a dog or a cat would not be a good idea.
it would not be fair on them move into your new place and see how things go then decide if you have the time, being London and the pubs and night life there who is to say you would be there at night ,
i wish you luck

A hamster.

As you live in a flat it would be unfair to get a dog or a cat as there is not a large garden for them and no company during the day.

Hamsters are nocternal which means they sleep all day and wake early evening for a play.

Male syrian hamsters are the best, they are laid back, rarely, if ever bite and love human company.

I suggest NOT getting a pet. If you want to spend time with animals, volunteer at an animal shelter or similar organization instead.

Pets are wonderful, but they are also a committment for the lifetime of the pet. Dividing up the pet's care among three people is also, in my opinion, a bit risky (I can imagine "I thought *you* were going to feed it" conversations). I believe you have good intentions, but I just don't think getting a pet now is a good idea for you three.

Cats don't need as much attention as dogs and are less destructive when left alone. I am a dog person, but dogs do need a lot of attention. Cats use a litter box, dogs do not, so if you are not home during the day to let the dog out to do its "business" then a dog is not a good choice.

I would say a cat, or other low maintenance pets like fish, snake, tarantula, hamster, guinea pig, etc.

Enjoy your day!

Get a hamster. Being nocturnal it will sleep all day and wake up in the evening when you are there to play with it. Only thing is, they are quite noisy on their wheels at nighttime when you try to sleep so you need them far away! On the plus side, they don't live more than 2 years normally, so it's not a lifelong obligation. And their cheap! Though don't get it if you can't be bothered to clean it out because that's unfair on the hamster.

Get a small dog like a Miniature Pincher and ether
A. Find a doggie daycare place
B. Hire a house sitter to be there for your dog (must be carefully screaned though)
C. Join a group of dog owners that stay at home and are willing to pick your dog up for a playdate
D. Ask your bosses about taking your dog to work with you, providing that the dog will not be too big of a distraction

For three guys, I normally would suggest a dog. But since there is going to be such a long stretch of time while none of you are home, you might want a cat or two. I say two so they can keep eachother company- though some cats are quite happy being only kitties.

a pair of rats - i say a pair as they will get very lonely on their own especially with you all being at work everyday - they make fantastic pets - they are like dogs but in a small package you can teach them tricks and everything - theyve got a bad rep but dont believe it - they do need a big cage however so you would need to price it up first but they are cheap to look after once youre set up - they only live for 2-3yrs but hey itll be worth it - hamsters and fish are boring in my opinion. (oh and the boys are the best in my opinion too soooo friendly and love to curl up on your lap or shoulder)
