Right-click on My Computer on your desktop .. then click properties.. go to the Remote tab .. and in the lower part of the tab, check the "allow users to connect remotely to this computer" ...
once this is done, this computer can be accessed over the lan by providing the right credentials(UID/Pass) ... use MSTSC in the start-> run command to start the terminal services client for connecting to this remote computer...

The computer has to boot from SOMETHING. Either a hard drive or a CD drive will do, but you have to use one or the other. In the old days, of course, we booted from floppies. You can still set up a floppy with the basic system but that cannot boot windows. There are some networks that allow you to boot from the network server but I'm not knowledgeable on how that can be set up.
