I am a print journalism major and college news staff writer for a year. Like most universities, we have a full news staff of writers, photographers, CG artists, and editors, and we publish articles weekly.

However, my problem with working with the newspaper is having editors that have no clue how to edit news articles or they argue and fuss over AP style and are quick to fire a "novice" writer over a few mistakes, considering that we're all novices.

I have taken many communication classes where I've made nothing but A's, met all the deadlines, and I keep a 3.7 GPA in my field. I feel like this newspaper is nothing but a bunch of squabbling students who also have much to learn; It's hard to take them seriously.

I understand that the media workplace is hectic like this, i've worked for newspapers before, but there isn't any opportunity to grow or even learn here. I feel that if you want a professional job, hire professionals, not students.

What to think?

"You must be the change you wish to see in the world." ~~Gandhi

Welcome to the hot and heavy world of journalism. I received my BA in journalism back in 1974. Nothing much has changed in newsrooms since then whether you are working in print, tv, radio or online.

That said, I believe there really should be no room for bullies in this world. If things are truly out of control, go speak with the college Dean who is in charge of this area.

Things can start to change one person at a time. Maybe you are that person. Perhaps you can write a first person account of what you have seen take place. It will put the situation in perspective for you before your meeting.

"You're miserable, edgy and tired. You're in the perfect mood for journalism." ~~Warren Ellis*
