I think so too.... Backing never works.... just try to make the team as good as possible without putting hype on a certain player who will not do the team overall any good.

With the amount of money they're going to spend for a shortened season's effort by Clemens, they could have supported the entire 2006 Tigers pitching staff, one of the best in the league. Unless Clemens can put up bigger numbers than that, I'd say monetarily speaking it was a bad move, but since the Yanks have so much money, if he can give his team 5 more wins than they would have if he wasn't there this season, it would still be a success. Steinbrenner can afford to pay 5 million per extra team win if that means edging the Sox for the division, but that still doesn't say anything about the playoffs. To answer the question, considering all the facts, it wasn't a good choice.

Well the Yanks are struggling right now, and they have the money.... Clemens was more easily available to the Yanks then a pitcher like Santana would have been... So, it was a good fit.... Also, the Yanks are only committed to Clemens for one season (well really, half a season)... if it doesn't work out, that's the end of that..... But, if they went after a pitcher like Santana...and not that he's not a damn good pitcher...But, they could be tied up for years with contractual issues (like A-Rod... MAYBE Giambi...depending on how the contract void goes...etc.)....
Clemens was a good fit for the Yankees with minimal risk... He could get them into the World Series...then again, he could prove to be hitable and not the Rocket of old....But, regardless, he's gonna sell tickets for the Bronx Bombers and create drama and story lines.... Just what the "Evil Empire" thrives on.... So, long story short, it was a better idea for them to go after Clemens as opposed to (a possibly costlier Santana)... at least for right now.

I have a mixed feelings about Clemens coming back to the Yankees. On one side, I think it would help the pitching. I mean, come on, it's Roger Clemens. On the other side, I think it wasn't a well thought out move. I know it sounds cliche but let's face it, as a pitcher, he's not what he used to be. He doesn't even pitch up to six innings anymore. And a one year, $28 million dolar deal shows that the Yanks are really desperate. Well, I don't really blame them. Look at all the injuries they have with the pitchers. The latest was Rasner's freak accident. Let's see if Clemens live up to the Yanks' hope.

Getting Clemens was not a bad move but his contract was not well thought out. It was an act of desperation by the Yankees and it showed.
The Twins would not give up Santana and the Yankees have nothing to offer that would be even remotely considered a good deal. Top drawer starters simply don't get traded except maybe due to impending free agency..

Great move. The Yankees are is need of someone that can get this team going. What goes on in the clubhouse finds it's way to the playing field and he is a leader. If we can all get beyond the money he is being paid it looks to be a solid move for the Yankees. The good pitchers on other teams in the league would not be available at this time of year because everybody is trying to win.

It is hard to say whether or not it was a good choice. The Yanks are very desperate because of all the injuries. Once he gets on the field, we will see how he performs. He definitely should not get the money he agreed to. That is way too much for only playing in a partial season. I think the luxury tax that they have to pay is equal to about HALF of Clemens ONE contract. They are way too desperate. They won't make the playoffs this year!

Acquiring Clemens got the Yankees a top-notch pitcher (yeah, for half a season; his pay is pro-rated commensurately) without giving up other players, including minor league talent, or draft picks. Only money -- and the Yankees have plenty of that.
Money they have, wins they want. Easy choice.
I don't think Rocket made his best decision, but it was his choice.

Roger Clements could be a good move. Haven't heard about him though, is he a new minor league prospect? I do think it's a good move to get Roger Clemens! He's a good pitcher who should win some games for the Yankers...if they give him the run support the Astros didn't. (By the way, how difficult would it be for you to just COPY his name and the word "pitcher" from the stories you read? dolt)

Clemens is a PLEB!
his career stats speak for themselves, but to pay a guy that turns 45 this season a pro-rated $28mil salary to not even have to show up every day????
think about this...
$28mil is MORE!!! I STRESS MORE than A-Rod is making to bust his guts in the hot corner everyday of the week.
, say clemens throws 100 pitches in his first game, he gets paid $8 thousand and change PER PITCH!
DID I HEAR SOMEONE SAY OVER RATED???

Yes! They needed major help at the SP spot with all the injuries. And they probably can't get Santana, he too important to the Twins.
