Your not a very good joiner mate, if you cant work out the best way to sharpen your pencil. Do what nearly everyone else does and use your stanley knife if you know what one of those are.

I got a small pencil sharpener at a home center. It's made for flat carpenters pencil, but the opening would fit an oval pencil. I believe it cost around $2. You may have to ask for one, but I found mine near the cash register.

While all the answers that state use a "knife" are certainly valid. Such a tool does exist and Mikie B pointed it out.

I'll assume as a "Joiner" you're in the UK. I have no idea what types of hardware/tool/home stores exist where you live, but here in the states both Lowes and Home Depot sell a Carpenters Pencil,,,sharpener. It's likley you'll find what you're looking for online. They are inexpesive enough to allow the purchase of more than one.

The "knife" process however would be the most rapid way, with a tool you should be carrying anyway.

They don't sell such sharpeners. The design of pencil sharpeners relies upon a on smooth circular rotation of either a blade or the pencil. An ovid shape would break the mechanis.
Use a sharp knife - these pencils are designed to be knife sharpened.

Traitionally, my friend, a joiner's pencil doesn't NEED a sharpener, - its "OVAL", or "OVOID" shape, means, that the joiner can, actually, sharpen it, with one of the tools, on his belt, - usually, a CHISEL or GOUGE, - when required.
