Some cars (e.g., Acura) suggest every 7500 miles. I own a 92 Volvo 240 sedan and change it every 3000 miles (it has >200,000 miles). The issue isn't just lubrication, it's also detergents and other cleansing agents. Old oil will sometimes lubricate well, but minus the detergents, will gunk and clog up your engine ovee time since heat breaks down the viscosity. I would do it every 3000 miles, whether the manufacturere said every 10,00, 20,000 or 1,000,000 miles since oil performs a cleaning function also. Do this regardless of car's age!
Synthetic oils supposedly go farher than natural oil... here too the detergent is the factor and not the lubrication. Finally, a good oil filter may not last as long as the 7500 miles before it begins to clog up or allow fine particles to pass thru, which will contaminate the long lasting (?) oils.

depends on what type of engine you have diesel engines should have their oil change more often than a petrol engine.
If you have the service manual for your motor then it will recommend a period of time or KM's ( miles sorry )
the older your car is the more often you should have your oil changed if you don't have a manual and you have an older vehicle i would say anything from 6-12 months or 10-15000 km's, if you check your oil periodically you will start to notice a change in its viscosity, colour and odour if it is almost black and smells like it is old or burnt then it is time to change it, oil is normally brown and transparent when new, when you get it changed if you get a mechanic to change it the will most likely recommend a time for your next oil change.

Regardless of claims made by the major oil companies, I change my oil and filter every 2000 miles. Make sure you use a good quality oil and oil filter. Oil is the lifeblood of your engine.

I recently spoke to a chemist who works for an oil company and he said oil never ever loses its oiliness and that all he ever does is change his oil filter each 3000 miles and tops up .He said its the dirt that causes problems and wear and if you keep changing the filter it keeps the oil better ~~
