Well, as said by others, it does depend on subject. For example, if you are calculating the various forces on a Mars- Lander, or the wonder of the Big Bang theory etc. then it may be tricky to have any definative practical knowledge. On the other hand, as far as you can, theory is always better if proven with practical application as it gives the theory a wider appeal and may in turn open up other ideas to follow through.

The question is-how do you know there is no practical knowledge? Many people study theories and never apply them. That doesn't mean that you cannot apply them, it means you just didn't apply them. A lot of this is in asking yourself how you can apply what you have learned, not everyone does this. I am not saying there aren't theories you cannot apply but the number is very small.

Practical knowledge is more important in your life. You need only know where the switch is located and how to switch on to get light. You need not know theory of electricity or electro magnetic theory. In our day to day life in most of the cases you donot know the theory.
If you are speaking about formal education in colleges or schools ,a lot of theory is included in the syllabus.Sound knowlede of theory is desirable to understand technology and process. With out theory, science and technology cannot develop.Technology is an off shoot of theoretical science.

We shouldn't. Theory without practical knowledge is static, useless.

depends on which theory you refer to..some cannot be proven or totally disproven..but holding it as theory still give the what if..like theory of relativity..then like theory of gravity its was know things fell down just some guy figured out if i label it ,its mine..and a few other followed suit along the way..I think we learn so we can make better or disprove or come up with our own..

Just depends on the subject. One can research different types of sucide, but I think practically exploring the concept wouldn't get you further than the first practical.
