(1/x) = (2/x) - 3

Multiply both sides by x and simplify.

1 = 2 - 3x

Re-arrange [add 3x to both sides & subtract 1 from both sides]

3x = 1

Divide both sides by x.

x = 1/3

Your answer is b) 1/3

There are multiple paths to the solution
1/x = 2/x - 3
1 = 2 - 3x (Multiplying through by x)
1 - 2 = - 3x (Getting like terms together or subtracting 2 from both sides in this case)
-1 = -3x (Simplifying further)
1 = 3x (Multiplying through by -1)
1/3 = x (Dividing by 3)

Another is to multiply both sides of the equation by -x/3
-1/3 = -2/3 + x
which leads to
-1/3 + 2/3 = x then
1/3 = x on simplification

Dealing with multiple choices mathematic questions are really very simple.

If you can't find the answer of x, then try put in the values of x=1, x=1/3 and x=3 into the equation. That's the way to check whether your answer is correct or not. The answer is x=1/3.

1/x = 2/x - 3
3 = 1/x (2/x - 1/x = 1/x)
x = 1/3

Hope this is helpful.

1/x = 2/x - 3
=> 2/x - 1/x = 3
=> 1/x = 3
=> x = 1/3
Hence, the answer is b) 1/3

I'm no math expert.. But my answer is B.

Here is how I got my answer..

1) I multiplied each side of the '=' by X, and cancelled which would then give me:
1 = 2 - 3x

2) I subtracted 2 from each side which gives me:
-1 = -3x

3) I muliplied each side by -1 which gives me: 1 = 3x

4) I divided each side by 3, which gives me the answer: 1/3 = x

You can do different steps (in a slightly different order) to get basically the same thing. Hope this helps and good luck!

1/x=2/x-3

Multiply thru by x

1 = 2 - 3x

Subtract 2 from both sides

-3x = -1

x = 1/3

The answer is 'b' because....
1/x=2/x-3
1/x-2/x=-3
x-2x/[x^2]=-3
-x/x^2=-3
-x=-3x^2
x=1/3

1/x = 2/(x-3)

1*(x-3) = 2*x

x = -3

Did you mistype the question by any chance?
