There is a difference between a healthy ego and an overblown ego for one. Many people will say that those who brag a lot and puff themselves up have big egos, in actuality they suffer from impoverished egos, they must talk to make up for what they lack. Bullies are insecure, cowards who are ignorant and stupid who must resort to tactics of fear and physical torment to make themselves feel better. They are unhappy people who must make those who are generally happy with their lives suffer because "misery loves company".

They don't. They have very low self esteem. It's basic common knowledge.

A bully has low self esteem, likely caused by some form of abuse or something. They feel inferior. They pick on kids to bring them down, so they can feel superior to them.

That's why if a child has self respect and won't take it, and either fights back or walks away, the bully will cease that behaviour with that child, because he gets no feedback, he gets no control, he gets no power, he gets no self esteem boost.

It's not the bully's fault if you think about it, they had a crummy life.

Bullies have higher self esteem than the ones they are bullying. Otherwise they would feel that the person they were bullying is worth too much for them to even attempt to assault them.
Its all relative really.
Bullies often have a lower self esteem than people who have healthy esteem and don bully people and thats why they dont bully those people. Its a case of using someone less fortunate than yourself to increase your self esteem but at the same time lowering their self worth even though they are in a worse situation than yourself.
Its th way immature people are, be it an adult or a child.

The problem is that bullies think they are better than everybody else, don't like people that aren't "like"them, and pick on people who are weaker or smaller than they are or even just because someone is different from them. The good news is that as they get older most bullies get a taste of their own medicine whether it be in the workplace or life in general. They learn their lesson the hard way. Have you ever really known a successful bully? I haven't.

Who is this 'we'? I personally never did. The self-esteem that bullies possess results chiefly from the observation of the lameness of others.
He or she may feel resentful at being surrounded by ineptitude. Especially when so paraded before their eyes and ears daily, and coddled by caregivers.
Becomes a wolf by default.

there is a difference between self esteem and inflated ego, check it out....
no, bullies are cowards, they only prey on those they think are weaker than they. Have you ever seen one pick an argument with a kid twice their size and strength?

They have very low self esteem and are unhappy. This is the reason that they feel the need to belittle someone else to feel "powerful".

As a psychologist, this is not my experience. I wonder where you get your research results from?

You may be getting confused with the 'confidence' that they have when bullying somone who is weaker than themselves. (Post your research info, if you can)

Good luck! Rob
