If you do not trust your neighbor with your pet, then, find someone else to care for him. I am sure that your neighbor would take care of it for you, but under the circumstances, if you do not trust him, then you would be doing him a favor instead the other way around. What you wrote is called decrimination, and if that is the case, I hope your neighbor finds out about it, and would not even say Hello to you.

That is all up to you. Has the person taken care of your pet before? If you have never had a reason to mistrust the person, why start now. You are putting way to much in the fact that the person id gay. You are implying that gay people have other means for your gerbil. Yes, I know where you are going with that implication. To accuse someone of that, you should have some evidence to back it up. No pun intended.

You may need to take safety precautions for yourself as well as your gerbil. Of course with no "hard evidence" you don't have much reason not to trust him though "assess" your gerbil upon returning and always keep authoritory emergency phone numbers close at hand for yours and your gerbils safety.
