I've installed XAMPP - but my php file is still not working when i try to preview it from dreamweaver - help!

I was told I needed XAMPP - as it had Apache, PHP and the other stuff I needed in order to run php.

I have onstalled XAMPP but I've not configured it as I don't know how to - and when I try to preview my little php file from dreamweaver (preview in firefox) - it says I need to specify a server!!

help me!!

The dreamweaver preview will not work for these files.

The files have to be run on the webserver first to function. So move them to your web server directory and view them from your "localhost" address.

I think you are not saving the files in appropriate folder. There is a folder in xampp named C:\xampplite\htdocs . Save your php file in it. Then try to preview. I wish it will work. it is the root directory for xampp by default. you can change it though. For me it is

C:\xampplite\htdocs\

Because I have put xampplite in my root C Drive. If I have a file named index.php in C:\xampplite\htdocs folder it can be accessed thorough this url.

http://localhost/index.php
