Im beginning to think so. After Dean getting destroyed for making a funny noise. Now republicans want to narrow the field for future debates. I think they already know its Hillary vs. Gulianni. Any other candidate will be dismissed. They wont get the TV time.

Well, they certainly try to. But they don't have the power to control the process. In 2000, the media picked McCain and Bradley as their preferred candidates, but McCain still lost and Bradley got demolished, not winning even one primary. Because bloggers now act as an outside check on their actions to some degree, the media is probably less powerful today than it was then.

The media now doesn't seem to be selecting nominees, but they definitely are selecting 'real' candidates - Hillary, obama, Mccain, Giuliani, Romney, Thompson, and probably Edwards - versus the minor candidates whom they refuse to cover seriously.

No,the money powerful let them run or fall.
Media is run by some powerful too.
Media happens because the other "heads of families" let them do their gambling in "their territory".
