Would greatly appreciate it. Please help if you can! The question is: Taking into consideration the theories of thinkers like Jeremy Bentham, John Stuart Mill, and Karl Marx and reformers like Robert Owen, imagine a scenario that would have allowed Britain to industrialize in a more humane fashion than happened

You mean if it had of been a socialist Britain, instead of the right wing capitalist multi cultural sest pit it is?

Isiah Berlin would be ashamed of you. To live in Positive Freedom is much better to live in a Negative freedom. Socialism is a great ideology, but it is unworkable, has been tried and tested, and in the end the people who led were more corrupt than any other country. Mao, Stalin, between them they must have starved 200 million people.

... but pure capitalism doesn't work either, and also kills millions of people. The argument of 'pure socialism' versus 'pure capitalism' is a false dilemma... no country is, or was, either.

In answer to your question I can only say perhaps they could have adopted progressive ideas earlier... not just 'help the working class' ones but also the Corn Law issue and others that unleashed enterprise from aristocracy.

Education, welfare, public health and sanitation were not drags on development: they accelerated it, and would have made Britain both more powerful and created better conditions for ordinary people. But nobody was willing to allow THAT much class mobility, that soon.

Hello Lizzie,

I believe Britain axed it's own feet.

Ideally, it should have had sensible import policies for bringing in thing/material both finished and raw, from the colonies.

The imports were what led to the downfall, not Britain's industries themselves... They were not able to compete...

Except Rolls Royce of course...:)
