The Big bang theory is an application of Einstein's equations for gravity to the universe as a whole. When this is done, it is found that the universe would either expand or contract. When observations of distant galaxies are made, it is found that their light is stretched (via the doppler effect), which shows them to be moving away from us: expansion. In the Big Bang scenario, every galaxy would see essentially the same picture: all distant galaxies are moving away. There is no center of expansion, and it is not like a typical explosion: space itself is expanding, the galaxies are not simply moving through space.

When we take the universe that we see and project back in time, the density and pressure increase as we go back in time until a point where the Einstein equations break down: this is the singularity of the Big Bang. A strict application of the equations would say that time itself started at that point, so no 'before the Big Bang' would be possible. Since it is almost certain that the conditions are such that the equations no longer hold, we simply don't know what happened earlier, or even if it makes sense to ask.

Anyway, we understand what happens starting about 1 millisecond after this clock started. As the universe cooled down, simple atomic nuclei were formed (we can see the remains and verfiy the theory here). As it cooled further, it eventually got to the place that light could get through all the matter. We see the resulting glow all around us in the Background Radiation. By studying this background, we can learn a great deal about the conditions of the early universe, including its age, its density, and some things about its composition.

Hi. The Big Bang Theory describes the beginning of the universe.Cosmologists are having a bit of a problem finding the catalyst responsible for the Big Bang. They say they can go back to a millionth of a second just after the big explosion but not before. The popular theory is there appeared a small very dense ball of matter which exploded at such a tremendous force matter was spread out in all directions to become stars in the universe. They don't actually admit that the small compressed material was "created"but rather "appeared" instead. So in the end we are still stuck with theories not facts. But they are happy to leave it at that.So what is the most logical reason for everything in the universe .A theory of how it may have been started or the acceptance of a Deity who created everything.Or maybe there was a third party we don't know about.

It is more accurately described as a hypothesis.
A scientific theory should be subject to the scientific method to allow it to be disproved or proved.
The origin of the universe was not observed, conjectures cannot be repeated or tested.

It is in fact a philosophical hypothesis put forward by evolutionists in order to try and explain the universe and life, without the creator.

The idea is that there was nothing and somehow that nothing exploded and created everything.
The Big Bang hypothesis is not good at explaining the observed evidence and is riddled with problems. Its proponents continually have to make up new crutches to make it all 'work'. For example, expansion (the early universe had to expand much faster, but there's no mechanism or proof of this), dark energy and dark matter (apparently making up most of the universe but not yet spotted).
