I'm using AVAST and a pop-up saying

"Network shield blocked DCOM Exploit attack from 222." and a couple of more numbers (which I think is the address of the computer?)

How do I know who is doing this? Serious answers only

The number that are showing are the IP that attempted the "attack". If you are on a particular website at the time the exploit is on that website. (I would not go back.)
You can also track the IP write down the number and go to http://dnsstuff.com enter the IP and find out who the ISP is that hosts that IP. You can then send mail to abuse@ispname and report the issue.

You don't.
The IP address they are on will probably change everytime they restart their router. Short of doing an IP lookup and writing to the ISP concerned complaining IF it's a regular occurance nothing you can do.

If you make a note of the full IP address, make sure it os NOT a machineon your own systems there (if more than 1 PC)

As well as Avast I'd suggest a proper firewall, not the windows one, like Zonealarm from Zonelabs for extra security
