As the guys above said, Yes remove Norton before installing a new AV (but keep it while downloading).
If you have trouble removing Norton, Google "Norton Removal Tool" and run that.
I don't recommend AVAST but if you like it fine it looks like a music player, I've had problems with the interface skin not loading,
I recommend AVG ( http://free.grisoft.com ) or antivir ( http://www.free-av.com/ ) AVG has email (outlook etc) scanning, if you don't need that get antivir.
Enjoy your Norton-free experience, your computer should feel like its had life breathed into it!
If you want to buy an antivirus (Not needed because free AV's work very well) and have the added support, or can't comply with the policy (ie. Personal use only - for free AV's) get:
I use it it is Awesome, but the free AV will do you just fine.

Yes. Completely remove Norton before you install the other software. I reccommend AVG Free, very good and light on the system.

While installing the new one, Uninstall the 1st one so as to break the wars b/w the 2 AV's. If you want a really nice and strong anti virus, I recommend you to buy instead of using a free one. Although i have a full license of Zonelabs Zone Alarm Security Suite, If you want it them leave me an Email. have fun...

it truly is a solid thought to unInstall previous vrsions of older utility brfore installation the main present variations. it truly isn't the cse through fact some deploy wizards will extract older archives that are actually not mandatory or will enterfere with extra moderen variations. study the equipment Requirments and FAQ's for the suited approach.

No, you can download first, un-install Norton, then install the new one.
Best one I could recommend is Avast Home, free for home use.

Leave it there WHILE you download the new program, but uninstall it BEFORE you install the new one.
I reccomend AVAST, from www.avast.com for free home use.
Easy to set up, and regular updates, all automatic.
