No legal issue involved if you don't change your surname after marriage. Rather if you change it you have to go through a legal process where you advertise in two newspapers regarding such a change, next get this change in the Gazette of India, you also get such surname changed in your Passport by giving an application to the passport officer along with your marriage certificate that has been issued by the marriage officer/registrar either under the Hindu Marriage Act,1955 or under the Special Marriage Act,1954 or in case you got married under the Indian Christian Marriage Act,1872 a certificate issued by the marriage registrar under this Act. The passport officer then adds the name of your husband & makes the necessary changes in your surname.

No problem... you can add surname of your husband after your maiden name.

Eg: Malaika Arora Khan
Priyanka Gandhi Vadra

It is your wish that you want to add your own surname or your husband surname. It is not legal that after marrige you have to add your husband's surname.
