yeh i did a really hard way and than i got it so i tried another way and that worked. Answer was 4 u cross multiply and than do 4 x 3 which is 12 so u go 8 x 12 = 96 so than u get 23x = 92 and so u get x = 4

(2X+ 7/3) + (5x - 8 / 4) = 8
2X+ 7/3 + 5X -2 = 8
*add like terms
7X + (1/3) = 8
*subtract (1/3)
7X = (8-(1/3))
7X = (23/3)
*divide by 7 or multiply by (1/7)
X = (23/3) (1/7)

OR IF YOU MEANT:

[(2x + 7) / 3 ] + (5x - 8) / 4] = 8
*find common denominator [12]
[4(2x+7) + 3(5x-8)] / 12 = 8
*distribute
(8x + 28 + 15x - 24) / 12 = 8
*add like terms and multiply by 12 to get rid of denominator
23x - 4 = 96
*add 4
23x = 100
*divide by 23
x = 100/3 = 4.35

*** is a problem 28-24=4 so its actually 23x+4=96

so x=4 *assuming this is in fact what the OP meant.

Assume question is meant to be:-
(2x + 7) / 3 + (5x - 8) / 4 = 8
8x + 28 + 15x - 24 = 96 (after X by 12)
23x + 4 = 96
23x = 92
x = 4
PS Looking at other answers, you will note the confusion caused by not using brackets! Brackets are very important when writing equations.

is it:

(2x + 7/3) + (5x - 8/4) = 8

OR:

((2x + 7)/3) + ((5x - 8)/4) = 8 *** I solved this one below, Jinonny is wrong above!

(In other words, is the "2x+7" ALL over 3, or is only the 7 over the 3.
I ask because written the way you have it, 8/4 seems pretty silly to write that way because 8/4 is just 2!)

** Solution for the second equation:

First, eliminate the fraction:
((8x+28) / 12 ) + ((15x-24)/12) = 8
(8x+28 ) + (15x-24 = 8(12)=96
8x+15x + 28-24 = 96
23x +4 = 96 <-- NOTE: this is where Jinonny has it wrong, she got minus 4 instead of plus 4.
23x=92
x=4

(2x + 7 / 3) + (5x - 8 / 4) = 8

if this means

((2x + 7 )/ 3) + ((5x - 8) / 4) = 8

multiply both sides by LCD, 12

4(2x + 7) + 3(5x - 8) = 12*8

8x + 28 + 15x -24 = 96
23x = 92

x = 4

multiply through by 12 and equation becomes
(24x+28)+(60x-24)=96
84x-4=96
84x=100
x=100/84
x=25/21
x=1 (4/21)
