Is it rough or casual? I've heard of the term "cruising", is this just picking someone up? Do you think it's safe to be picked-up by yourself, or should you have a friend with you? Please, I need info. Thanks!

The only way you are going to really find this out is to go to a gay bar/club. Don't worry, there is a good enough mix of GLBT-types and straight folks too. Obviously the atmosphere in the bar/club is dependent upon the people using it. So, take along a few of your pals, make a night of it and have a great time - ultimately, a club is a club is a club irrespective of your orientation.

'Cruising' refers to the deliberate practice of seeking a partner (for a wide range of activities) and usually takes place at very limited areas of a club. Even IF you are approached , a polite no is usually accepted - these places also have in-club / door management who WILL BE 'VERY'HELPFUL in the unlikely event that your no is ignored.

It's ok to feel slightly intimidated by the newness of any situation - when you discover that it's safe and that the club is probably full of other people who are just as curious about what a gay club/bar is, you and your pals will have a great time.

Remember, you are in control of you. If you feel uncomfortable, or this bar / club isn't what you're looking for, you can leave. These places aren't prison and there are lots of them in different cities, in different countries all over the planet.

Stay safe and stay lucky

If you are going for the first time, it is better to go with friends, it keeps some of the unwanted attention in check. Plus, in case there is any kind of trouble, your friends are there with you. However, as Her Majesty says, each place has its own ambiance, and attracts a certain type of crowd. You can decide about the place you will be comfortable going to by reading up on it, or asking people who have been to these places in your area.

Dear child,

How old are you? Don't worry. You'll grow out of it.

Each club or bar has it's own ambience. They generate their own character to draw a certain clientele.

Go to any bookstore with a descent gay section and get - or just read - a "Damron Travel Guide" for your city. It will describe the most popular night spots.

That is perhaps a good place to start.

Thank you.
