Since this will be used for specialized applications, what you need to do is find out what these programs prefer to use.

The Mac MIGHT be able to run a specialized Windows program, but on the other hard, might have real issues. So it's best to get the right pc for the software.

I have no qualms about either, I actually have both. If the program(s) run on a Mac, get the mac.

If you find Windws wins, the Dell XPS is a great mainstream yet versital laptop.

Try a VIAO laptop
